The Seven Secrets of Job Guarantees:
Response:
Time Limits:
It is usual to find that on the small print that the guarantee will only apply if you have completed your training and passed your Certifications within a specified time.
Unfortunately, the training company may then hold back material or keep you at the same stage of training as they "don't think you are ready for your exams yet."
This continues until the specified date has passed and they no longer have to offer you a position. ^top
Job Offers:
You may find that if you do not accept the first job offered, then the training company is under no obligation to offer you another placement.
The training company can offer a job anywhere.
It may mean that you have to relocate and move house and family if you wish to take the job. ^top
Economic Climate:
The guarantee may state that the job offer is dependent on economic climate.
So if they perceive that the economic climate has changed then they do not need to provide a job placement. ^top
Further Qualifications:
Another common ruse regarding job guarantees is that they are dependent on taking further training with the training company before any job is offered.
This is usually not made known until after your course has started and in the incidents we are aware of, the cost of the next course was as much again as the first course. ^top
Income offered is lower than industry standard:
If the job placement does happen, it is usual that you would be employed as a trainee or junior and the salary is usually lower than the norm with no increases based on your growing experience or qualifications.
Think about the following when you are “promised” a job; Would you take on new employees who you had never interviewed for a critical IT position?
Would you want to interview and select the best possible candidate who fitted in with your organisation and who demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to do the job?
^top
Tied into job contract:
The contract may tie you in to a job for several years at a low income or trainee position without any salary increase or promotion.
Once you gain a little experience you become more valuable, so you would expect a rise in income or promotion in most organisations.
We have found cases where the Student had to "buy themselves out" of a job as the job guarantee stated that the training was subsidised.
So when they wanted to move on they had to pay the so-called "full amount" of their training! ^top
Don’t see guarantee until enrolled:
Many IT training companies do not let you see the Terms & Conditions and therefore you are unable to look over the job guarantee at your leisure.
You are usually in a pressurised situation with a salesperson in your home or in an “interview” situation at the company premises.
If an organisation will not let you see their Terms and Conditions in advance, then maybe they have something to hide? ^top
